January and 2017 Goals

Today I'm sharing my goals for 2017 and how I am breaking those goals down for the first month of the year. I have a few concrete goals and some microhabits to start incorporating into my life. I will start 1-2 microhabits each month, and continually add to my habit repertoire.

Goals for 2017:

  1. Read at least sixty books. I have selected specific titles from various reading challenges, and will be reading other titles that come across my radar. I am not lacking in titles, just the commitment to make the time to read. Also, I will try to read at least twenty books from my current books and try to buy fewer books in 2017.

  2. Send birthday and anniversary cards to everyone on our list. For the wedding last fall, we collected updated addresses for all our friends and family and used a perpetual calendar as our guest book so people indicated their birthdays and anniversaries. We have implemented a system to help us send cards to everyone in 2017.

  3. Complete at least one Duolingo lesson everyday. Duolingo is a great language-learning software that works on an app and a website. I'm working on my Spanish and starting to learn Irish as well. My goal is to do at least one lesson a day, but I will probably do more many days. I'm going to Guatemala in June, so that will be a great test of my progress so far.

  4. Post on the blog five days per week. As I have studied my personality, I've discovered that I am an all or nothing person. I don't do well with usually or rarely as goals. So instead of trying to post regularly, I've made a concrete goal of posting five times a week.

  5. Celebrate Sabbath with Seth at least two times a month. Seth and I are working on developing the spiritual practices of our new family and Sabbath is one that is important to us. It requires us to prepare dinner before sundown on Friday, and be at home to enjoy the meal and each other. Our schedules can fill up quickly, but to start, we are committing to be home for Sabbath at least twice a month. Hopefully, that number will gradually increase.

  6. Get back to my lowest weight and keep it off for the rest of the year (and beyond!). I was very successful with my weight loss last year, but have put about fifteen pounds back on since the wedding and the holidays. I hope to lose that extra weight by May, and then keep it off for the rest of the year with good sustainable eating practicing, and plenty of daily movement.

  7. Run a 5K. I've been gradually increasing my running endurance with a Couch to 5K app, and plan to complete a 5K (all running) by the end of the year.

  8. Declutter our homes and live a more simplified life. This is an ongoing process, but I want our lives to be driven by our dreams, interests, and passions, and not by managing our stuff.

  1. Lose four pounds.
  2. Run continuously and easily for six minutes.
  3. Read at least six books (at least three from my existing shelves).
  4. Finish all my wedding vendor reviews.
  5. Change my name on five major accounts (banks, IRS, insurance, etc) and ten minor ones (websites, social media, magazines, etc).

  1. Do at least one Duolingo lesson each day.
  2. Post on the blog five days per week.
